There are various species of bed bugs, the common variety being Cimex lectularius. As their name suggests, bed bugs can be found in the seams of mattresses, box springs and bedding. At night they come out and feed on sleeping hosts. While bed bugs are not thought to transmit any serious illnesses to humans, the bite from this insect can be very irritating. The intensity of this irritation can range from no reaction at all to mild, moderate and severe.
During her life cycle, the female can lay up to 200 eggs creating an infestation in the right conditions, thus it is advisable to prevent bed bugs in the home before they become a problem.
